Marti's New Exciter
Marti got into the exciter business with the introduction of its new
40 watt FM exciter during the April NAB convention. The new ME-40 is fully
remoteable, has two composite inputs (balanced and unbalanced), provides
programmable tuning in 10 kHz steps, and includes three SCA inputs. FM
signal to noise is 80 dB below +/- 75 kHz deviation, measured in a 20 Hz
to 20 kHz bandwidth with 75 microseconds de-emphasis. Ask RF Specialties
about the ME-40, which is listed at $3,995.
No License Data Link!
It's finally arrived, the affordable bi-directional data link with no
FCC licensing required. Burk Technology saw the advantage of using spread
spectrum technology under FCC Part 15 for remote control, and unveiled
a new data link based on that technology at NAB '95. Maximum path length
is approximately 20 miles and unlike telemetry return links, the BDT-115
data link is a solution for congested markets where finding an available
frequency is about as likely as finding gold at the end of a rainbow. It
is also a solution for multi-site operations that need to address each
site individually. Price of the new BDT-115 is listed at $2,795. Call or
FAX RF Specialties today for details.
Line Pressure Checker
Everyone gets a blood pressure checkup every now and then, so why not
do the same with transmission lines? You can. Phartronics' pressure sensor
device samples transmission line pressure, and it's now available through
RF Specialties. Priced at only $195, Phartronics' line monitor provides
1 to 4.5 VDC that varies linearly with line pressure for remote control
alerting, and it is compatible with all remote control systems. Simply
"T" it into the pressure line, connect the sample voltage to the remote
control input, and start monitoring transmission line pressure! Call or
fax RF Specialties for information.

Podium on Wheels for Remotes
Get moving on those remotes this summer with a broadcast podium on wheels
introduced by Spacewise Broadcast Furniture. Dubbed the "Live Action Portable
Podium", this nifty all-in-one remote studio rolls anywhere, including
in and out of the station van for fast and easy remote setups.
It has recessed rack mounts for permanently mounting remote pickup
transmitters, mixers and amplifiers. It comes with built-in 6x9 inch speakers,
pre-wired AC wiring outlet box, and pre-mounted XLR connectors for audio
wiring, plus gooseneck mike stand and laminated shelves. Live Action Portable
Podium comes in three models, all under $1,000. FAX RF Specialties for
details on each.
RBDS Data Receivers
In addition to the RBDS radio receivers that are now on the market,
there are RDS data receivers that stations can acquire to fit a wide range
of applications.
RBDS data receivers by Modulation Sciences, Gian Technologies and
a model soon to be available by CRL can drive any RS-232 device, such as
computers, printers and LED signs. These receivers interface to PC's for
creating any information system imaginable. Modulation Science's RDS-X,
for example, includes four levels of addressability by four groups of eight
bits. What this means is that each RDS-X receiver may be uniquely addressed
for specific messages, or groups of receivers can be addressed as a group
-- and within these groups a large number of super groups may be formed,
so group identified messages can be sent to all groups simultaneously!
